A 19th century French silver part-canteen of cutlery was one of the more unusual lots on offer in our latest timed online Jewellery, Silver and Watches running from September 1-8. The Paris-hallmarked set was created for Francois Louis Gaspard De Castelvecchio (1826-1869), illegitimate son of Louis I Bonaparte, King of Holland and nephew of Napoleon Bonaparte, complete with crowned family crest, sold to the London trade for £5,200 (including fees).
An Omega ‘thin arrow’ 1953 military watch with original NATO strap was owned by Lt Col A D Andrews MC RA served in Iceland at the beginning of World War II with the 69th Field Regiment, later receiving a Military Cross came with family excellent provenance, selling to a collector for £3,770.
There was robust bidding in the jewellery section with an Art Deco Boucheron oblong diamond brooch getting away for £1,300; a ladies Cartier Panthere quartz watch fetched just over £3,000 going to an overseas buyer and a plethora of gold coins including a 1oz Kruggerand, Liberty ‘double eagle’ dated 1900 with a cased 1994 gold .917 proof one Rial Qaboos Al Bu Said Dynasty 250th Anniversary coin depicting the bust of the Sultan on the obverse and the Oman national emblem on the reverse proving the star lot at £3,575.
