As Wokingham Town Hall is closed until August our July 18th Silver, Jewellery, Art & Collectibles sale is now a Timed Auction available online only via the-saleroom.com. Viewing is by appointment only at our weekly valuation sessions (see wokinghamauctions.com/valuations for times and venues). Payment can be made online or via BACS.
One of our featured items is a rare watercolour, DAFFODILS by Edward Bawden (1903-1989). Bawden always thought himself more designer than artist and is better known for linocuts. His circle (included Eric Ravilious) began to combine clean lines and precisely applied colour often with stencilling and collage. In their hands, watercolour drawing went from fusty Edwardian to fresh mid-century. DAFFODILS (Lot 168) comes to the market from a private collection locally with labels for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, 1988 and Fine Art Society guiding at £1500-3000.
A Victorian silver nutmeg grater, Lot 126 by Hilliard & Thomason of Birmingham guides at £500-700 and a Victorian silver Sentry Box vesta, Lot 127 by Sampson Mordan, London 1886, the front enamelled with a depiction of a Grenadier Guard is estimated at £800-1200. A further 100 Lots of jewellery completes what promises to be an exciting mid-Summer sale.
