Important Henri Manguin picture sells at Wokingham Town Hall
A French fauvist oil painting sells for £60,000 at Wokingham Auctions July sale. LE REPOS painted in 1921 by Henri Manguin (1874-1949) was consigned by a titled lady from East Sussex and purchased directly from the artist's family by the mother of the vendor. Its importance is underscored by its presence at retrospective exhibitions including The World's Fair in New York in 1960. It returns to France having been purchased by a Paris gallery and the price represents a house record for Wokingham Auctions on their third anniversary sale.
